This panorama, taken by James Blakeway, captures the Buffalo Sabres playing on home ice during their first full season under new ownership. Beginning day one, new owner, Terry Pergula laid out his vision and stated one simple goal for the team, “Starting today, the Buffalo Sabres’ reason for existence will be to win a Stanley Cup®.” In 1970, after years of minor league hockey, Buffalo established a National Hockey League® team, the Buffalo Sabres. In 1975, the Sabres made their first appearance in the Stanley Cup Final Championship series. This was the first Final since the 1967 expansion to include two teams that were not part of the Original Six™ teams.
